    Hi guys,

GREAT podcast. I love listening to you guys, and just left a review on iTunes for you. Hope it helps.
I had a couple of questions. I didn’t catch your podcast from the very beginning, and was wondering if there was a way to get the first 25 podcasts y’all did. iTunes doesn’t have them.
Second, I love the musical interludes y’all have, both Torin’s stuff and the music that harks back to the day. I don’t suppose you keep a playlist that you would be willing to part with?

Thanks for the work y’all put into the podcast! I really enjoy it and it’s great to hear a quality podcast from up here in Canada.

    Take care –
    Lisa

What’s the best way to make a suggestion for a podcast topic? I see you’ve done alcohol, a CNS depressant, but I was hoping you’d cover stimulants (like caffeine or recreational drugs) and maybe their interactions with depressants?

Our drug series is going to cover the big ones (alcohol is done, cocaine is en route). Not sure if we’ll do coffee for a whole episode. What other drugs are you thinking, specifically?

    Hey guys,

Just discovered your show. However, I’m having to make my way through the back catalogue before I can start listening to the recent episodes (going to keep me busy for a few weeks!).
Q: When’s the ‘snipers’ episode? or the ‘Stasi’?

    Fantastic show guys!

    Hey, Love the show!

Is it possible to have a page with all the download linx in one place. Right now us Soda Addicts have to open each show page to get that juicy, full-flavored link to an older show.
BTW: are the podcasts that aren’t in the iTunes store the “Golden Age” ones, and the ones in the iTunes store the “Silver Age” ones?

I just saw something called a “Hand of Glory” on another website and immediately thought of you guys. It’s traditionally a candle made from amputated hands or baby fingers and was believed to have magical properties.

Look into it, I’m sure you can put it to good use.

How about “jungles?” A thousand caustic things in there.
You’ve touched on “worms” but that’s a vein that will keep on giving. Then there’s “skin” has possibilities from many angles. “Mental illness,” is a natural, but “insane asylums” may prove more palatable. “Prisons? The tower of London is a horror show all it’s own. I like the saltwater themes: “Marooned” isn’t as fun as it sounds. Hmmmmm…still thinking. (Love the show. Excellent job on the site, too.)

Yes, this. And what about things like spontaneous combustion or torture (though bits of torture have been covered in other topics) or black widows (and I don’t mean the spiders, I mean women who do away with their husbands).

I love love LOVE the work you guys do here. Love it. But some of the last couple of episodes have been a bit less than stomach churning, and I LOVE the stomach churning. Let’s have more stomach churning!!!

    Great podcast guys!

I have a topic suggestion for you gents.

I was thinking about an episode on the Samurai; their culture, the swords, armor, the warlords, etc. There should be plenty of material for your pop culture segment.

Also, maybe if that doesn’t fill an entire episode, you can also do warriors and conquerors/leaders from other cultures — maybe the Scottish Highlanders, Roman soldiers, with their weapons and their war tactics, for example. Or maybe an ep. for each one.

    A few more topic suggestions:
    Torture, Spiders, Gangs.

Thanks again you guys! Keep it up!

Ok, its taken the best part of the year so far, but only 15 episode left until i have listened to the complete back catalougue! If only my brain could retain all this info, i would be amazing in pub quizes.
Thanks for such an entertaining show guys!
Possible evil dudes in history episode – Pope Alexander XI (Rodrigo Borgia)… what a cock!
He and his son (Cesare Borgia) did have a fairly ‘caustic’ death; skin peeling off and rapid decomposition… nice.

    God save the queen.

I knew that cesare and lucrezia have pretty legendary evil-ocity, but pops wasn’t on my radar before now. I’ll have to look into it. Thanks for the nod from across the pond.

Hell yeah! Ol’ daddy corrupted his way into pope-dom, then appointed his children into positions of power. As well as having a wife, a mistress and lovers, he also had towns pillaged and people killed… That’s right… ‘The pope’!

First: My sincere thanks to you for making my life a little bit more educational and/or disgusting on a regular basis. You guys rock. My husband and I tend to download and listen to the new podcasts as soon as they come out, and end up discussing what we learned over dinner. Equal parts horror and hilarity ensue.

Second: Is there really no episode on rabies? Seems like it’d be right up your alley!

Amazing show guys. I love every minute and every gross detail.
Just to make sure, is the Mafia on your list?
Obvious pop culture, but there are tons of stories from 1860 on that no one has heard about.
Not so caustic but great stories might be:
    -The Sangiorgi Report
    -The Notarbartolo Murder

Keep it caustic, keep it coming.

    Hey guys,

Not all your podcasts are available via iTunes – any chance you could put the rest of them on there? Massive fan BTW :)

Thanks Joe – now I can have more caustic soda goodness! Finished the Explosives episode – you must have a ton of followups, but this is pretty caustic: suicide bombers are generally identified from dental records: because they wrap the explosives around them, the head is propelled up and away from the rest of the blast, and often survives intact!

        Keep up the awesome work

I see the problem. If you search for “Dystopia” you don’t find it, but if you search for “Dystopias” it shows up.

I’ve added a few tweaks so that’s fixed. If I see any more searches that don’t work I can fix those too.

Great episode on ghosts! May I say a bit about Chinese ghosts? The word in Chinese is 鬼 gui (or kuei). These are the spirits of people who’ve died before their proper time, usually violently. Usually they haunt the site of their death. They can’t go on to the underworld until someone else dies and takes their place. They ARE dangerous, because they are always trying to kill people to take their places. I once saw a film about a haunted office building, where every year 9 people die. It ends with the hero dying because a ghost lures him into running off the top of the building.

Best ghost movies: Tsui Hark’s series A Chinese Ghost Story, I, II and III. All are good, unlike most sequals.

Hey gang. This Podcast is amazing. Listened to the new stuff, then bought the First season and am making my way through it.
    But I have two questions….
When will second season be available through iTunes?
And have you guys heard of the Dyatlov Pass incident? Technically it is a doomed expedition, but it has so much more. You have to check it out.

Thanks…oh and Toren, for some reason my wife has a crush on you, so I thought I would pass it along.

Find out this week when we discuss Toren’s pheromones! Today on Caustic Soda!

I also like how you zeroed in on my wife having a crush and completely ignored my inquiries. I shouldn’t feel surprised.

Hi guys, been listening A LOT recently.
I have a couple of suggestions for topics, though you may have covered this material in other related episodes.
    Power Tools
    Taxidermy and mummification
Spontaneous human combustion (is it all a crock of shit? There is some evidence I believe)
Brain injuries and/or personality changes (GET DR STEVE ON THE SHOW, DO IT NOW)
Sorry for getting all shouty there. That would be a cool episode.
Weather – caustic and dramatic like a BC winter (which must be cool, by the way, I have always wanted to visit Canada)
(By cool I mean freezing bloody cold, obvs)
ps come to the UK, do a live show. If you do it we will come… we love you guys, or at least I do and I am spreading the word.

Hey Rob. Mummies and brain injury are definitely on the list. For weather we’ve found so far that that falls under the various weather disasters (tornado, blizzard, etc, some of which we’ve already covered). Hadn’t thought of doing a taxidermy episode, may be worth considering!

Hey Toren, thanks for replying. Love the show.
Thanks as well for reminding me about H.P. Lovecraft – I went through a phase as a teenager but haven’t revisited his work for a while. I will now though. Shadow Over Innsmouth is one of those books that I read ages ago and then forgot who it was written by, to the point of trying to search bookshops and the internet for ‘the weird book about the fish-people, you know the one!’. It has all come back to me now, thanks. :)

Hi guys and gratz for the excellent quality show!

Your podcasts have been the best thing I have heard in a long time and they keep getting better and better!
There are way too many awesome episodes to list my favorites, but I’d like to say that anything with Dr. Rob usually makes the cut :) The four of you make for perfect sciency-comedy-gold!

There is also a subject you have touched on in many episodes, but I’d love if you guys could do a full podcast: Botched Suicides. I think that would be very caustic ;)

    Hey guys,

Your podcast is great! A lot of fun, considering what it is about. I would wish you Happy Holidays, but you seem to think along the same ways that I do, they are rubbish. Is there a way that i can download most podcasts at once? If now do you mind if I use torrents or news groups to do so?

    Thanks again… CJ

    Hi guys,
Love the podcast so much. I’d love to see an episode on the Dark Ages – how it all began, how does the world simply lose it’s information/technology, etc. And of course, all that caustic, caustic suffering.

Thought of another one – the Chernobyl disaster!
I’ve heard so many interesting whispers about this, but I’d love to really get into it. Apparently there’s a man-hunt style post-apocalyptic LARP event in the works.

    Hi guys,
Enjoying the podcasts in Ireland. Gets me through the monotonous jobs!! A point on the Irish famine – the worst affected areas were along the south & west coasts. There are ‘Famine Towns’, places wiped out & never repopulated. When you visit these areas the first thought you have is ‘ Why the hell did you not learn to fish????’ There may be a food source in the ATLANTIC OCEAN! A bit caustic eh??? Keep up the good work – Eire out

Ya, heard it the other day – that’s what prompted me to send in the comment. Like the anti-imperialistic overtures. In the fairness of balance while it was no doubt the British governments policy of inaction that escalated the problem over 4 years there were many landlords that got around the problem of being forbidden to aid the destitute by having ‘Follies’ built which gave employment to locals. Of course there were a lot, more than happy to allow the policy continue. But we are all grown up now and don’t hold grudges anymore etc!!!

    Hey guys,

Just listened to the bat episode (see my comment on the relevant episode page regarding The Human Bat on the TV show: Stan Lee’s Superhumans). Anyway, there was some fascinating trivia on it; as always, and you mentioned rabies a few times. We don’t have rabies here in England and I would love to know more about it (in a Caustic way). Is there a ‘rabies’ episode on your list?
Perhaps you could watch Rabid Grannies as part of the pop culture:

No snakes in Ireland? No rabies in England? Thanks goodness you have soccer riots and plagues, otherwise your homeland would be in tough to get a mention on the show at all!

I would dare say that Rabies is on our hit list for sure!

Oh here’s another one: being eaten alive. Stories from survivors, medical consequences of a bear chomping your head, going into shock when a shark rips off your leg, self defense techniques against an alligator… and, I looked it up: phagophobia. That is some serious primal fear. Also: ‘the dingo ate my baby”.

How about an episode on wildfires? Down here in SoCal, we get ‘em every year, and they are pretty destructive. To prevent the fire from spreading, people are spread around the permitter with a shovel to smack burning bunnies and other critters back INTO the blaze. That’ll teach ‘em to evolve something other than flammable fur!
